Nestled subtly below street level in New York, directly opposite iconic Museum of Modern Art, the latest % Arabica café designed by Selgascano and Curtis Su Associates captures the intimacy and sensory warmth often absent in bustling Midtown.Eschewing grand gestures, the architects transform an unassuming subterranean storefront into an organic cocoon, defined by fluid geometry and meticulous craftsmanship. Here, architecture doesn’t merely enclose space—it gently embraces the visitor.

入口镜面装置产生的空间折射现象，将狭窄门厅视觉扩展为三重景深

步入室内，近乎10米长的流线型柜台构成空间主轴，将狭长体量巧妙组织。这一水平元素凸显出上下分界的精妙处理：上部采用白色木饰面增强低矮天花的光线反射，下部运用原木色调铺陈触觉温度，二者共同谱写出一曲内敛的优雅乐章。

Upon entering, the café’s interior unfolds as a carefully choreographed experience, structured by a single, elegant counter that spans almost the entire 10-meter length. This horizontal element gracefully organizes the narrow volume, accentuating the distinct visual treatment of surfaces: white-painted timber above, which amplifies reflected light against the low ceiling, and natural-toned wood below, lending tactile warmth. Together, these dual treatments harmonize to create an interior of understated sophistication.

From street level, subtlety prevails. The façade remains quietly authentic, preserving visible traces of its past. A discreet logo hints gently at the hidden retreat within. At the threshold, a strategically placed mirror expands and distorts perspectives, offering curious passersby tantalizing glimpses into a space designed not for grand exposure, but for quiet discovery.

3D扫描技术生成的曲面木饰面与原始砖墙的肌理对话

Curtis Su Associates团队运用三维扫描技术精确测绘原有结构的起伏表面，通过数控切割木饰面板与玻璃纤维增强石膏的精密组装，将原始缺陷转化为连续蜿蜒的有机形态。墙面与天花浑然一体，既抚平了原有空间的粗粝感，又保留了其独特轮廓，最终形成如洞穴般令人安心的庇护所。

Employing precise digital technologies, Curtis Su Associates meticulously mapped the uneven surfaces of the existing shell through 3D scanning. CNC-cut wooden panels and glass-fiber reinforced gypsum were then intricately assembled into continuous, sinuous forms, smoothing imperfections while celebrating the space’s idiosyncratic shape. The result is a seamless environment where walls and ceilings flow effortlessly together, evoking the comforting, sheltering qualities of a cave.
